Hankin Lake – Smithers B.C. another gorgeous opportunity wasted courtesy of a government that claims to love tourism as long as they do not have to spend a dime on it, so they can prop up their own projects south of Hope with our forestry dollars. The cost of putting in a decent campgrounds is minimal considering the return on investment.

This site is for those who like travelling in by ATV with a canoe or kayak, too steep for most 4X4’s if you do try be sure to have a winch to get you back out.
Fish Species:
There is very little government data on fish stocks in the lake itself, the only survey we found was from 1974 and it listed rainbow trout as the only fish they recorded.
In 1975 they recorded the following fish species in the creek that leads to Hankin lake. Rainbow Trout, Cutthroat Trout, Coho Salmon, Dolly Varden, its our guess they all inhabit the lake as well, with possibly the exception of the salmon. Of interest is that there were a number of years all the way up to 1998 where they recorded coho in that same creek. (Ground, swim and helicopter surveys of adult coho escapement were conducted.) 1994 the last sampling showed Rainbow Trout, Cutthroat Trout, Coho Salmon, Dolly Varden, then in 1996 they only recorded Cutthroat Trout, Dolly Varden
No bathymetric map is available at this time.
